Maintenance and final touches before Christmas!

At this time of year there is no rest for our maintenance department who are continually busy, completing the final touches and cleaning up before the vintage. You can see Millsy thoroughly cleaning the outside of the tanks which can be quite a task! As well as cleaning building and repairs need to be done, as you can see Doug grinding and Mick at the puncher machine, there is no fanfare for these guys but they are an important part of the team at the winery! Who else will repair the breakages caused in the winery? Not saying that the cellar hands are prone to breaking things but machines and pumps will sometimes fail. From all of us here at Andrew Peace we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, See you in 2014!

The next vintage begins to flourish

We are at the "sit and wait" stage in the vineyard, while the vines begin to grow and flourish.

We are at the "sit and wait" stage in the vineyard, while the vines begin to grow and flourish. The Shiraz is still waiting on veraison but the Chardonnay has started to form. The vines are hearty green and ready for the fruit they will bear in summer.

So far the upcoming vintage is promising to be as good as the last one. It will still take time to nurture the vines and the soil to ensure we get the best out of them for our grapes. We had a moderate winter and the spring is a little shy in coming forward, however we are beginning to see big blue skies that display their panoramic visage.

Matt and Kendle celebrate their wedding at the winery!

We have just helped Matt and Kendle celebrate the happiest day of their lives! They got married in Tooleybuc, straight across the river and had their wedding reception at the winery on the lawn.
We have just helped Matt and Kendle celebrate the happiest day of their lives! They got married in Tooleybuc, straight across the river and had their wedding reception at the winery on the lawn. A large marquee was set up for the guests, with plenty of our wine stocked for the guests to enjoy this wonderful happy moment with the bride and groom. It is now spring over here and the weather was stunning, with the sun shining all day hitting 29 degrees!! Congratulations once again to the lovely newly wed couple :)

As you know being 400 Kilometers from Melbourne we get a variety of visitors calling into the Cellar Door. We got some interesting travelers this week; we had Thelma and Louise (horses) ride into the winery. Their owners Frances and Brian had a short stop to restock their supplies for the trip they had ahead. These two commenced their journey on the 16th of April this year, from Gunning New South Wales and traveled 1,500 Kilometers to date. Wouldn't it be lovely to have the luxury of time on your side to smell the roses, hey? It's great to have new visitors stop by, so please do come and have a wine and a chat with us if you're passing through......You can bring your own horse if need be.

Andrew Peace winery had some silver ladies drop by for a visit in July. They may be familiar to some..... The Swan Hill Vintage & Classic Vehicle Club!! They celebrated 40 years as a club and brought 65 classic cars with them to parade their splendor, on a lovely sunny winter day. There was some real classics from a bygone era, when cars were built for comfort and with style that is everlasting. The club members also enjoyed a tour of our winery, with afternoon tea, cake and sandwiches as a pleasant interlude to their day. Please take a look below to see a little snipet of the wonderful collection that was brought on the day!

Summer time at Andrew Peace Winery

In the middle of June as you can see we had the moon brightly illuminating the night, as it was the closest it has been to the earth for many years.
In the middle of June as you can see we had the moon brightly illuminating the night, as it was the closest it has been to the earth for many years. It certainly was bright over the last few nights, not quite enough light for cricket though. On this morning the moon waited a little longer to set and it lent itself to a lovely crisp winter morning and the remnant of the night just ended. All this may be very nice but the hard work still continues at the winery. The tank samples still need to be done and here you can see Marion, rugged up on top of the tanks getting a sample to analyse later in the lab. It is a lovely view from the top of the tanks, why don't you come over and have a look for yourselves sometime?

2013 Wines in blend

Another vintage over, but the hard work still continues in getting ready for this years and making it even better than the last.
Another vintage over, but the hard work still continues in getting ready for this years and making it even better than the last. Right now it's time to blend, blend, blend the wines, and as you can see Dave our winemaker is hard at work doing just that to give us something really special this year. He is extremely dedicated and even sometimes gets locked away in the tasting room for long periods of time until he gets it right.

While Frank the ever bright young man with a bright personality as you can see is overjoyed to be doing paperwork! You may also notice Subra the Accountant in the background looking very serious. Is that a common feature of Accountants? Just you wait until the 2013 wines arrive on your doorsteps, we believe they are the best yet!

Time to fish!

Well vintage has finished and some people have gone fishing while others are just enjoying not working 6 days a week for 12 hour shifts!
Well vintage has finished and some people have gone fishing while others are just enjoying not working 6 days a week for 12 hour shifts! Our Grower Liaison man Rod Duffy has spent some well earned time in the Northern Territory (North to the locals) fishing. There is some really good fishing up North and Rod made sure he got his share. He was going out at night before day break and throwing a line in. Rod was rewarded with one Barramundi, measuring 116cm caught at Salt Water Creek and 92cm caught at the mouth of the South Alligator river. That is what I call a fish! Are there any other fisherman catching similar in the waters around the UK? The 2013 vintage was a great one for reds and whites. It is sometimes hard to work with such a glorious sunset, overlooking the tanks as the night shift begins. However we will continue to work hard and make some great wine for our UK friends! Hope to have some of the wine over to you soon.
